Video Shows Impaired Driver Hitting VA Trooper During Drunk Driving Stop

Virginia State Police released dashcam video showing one of its troopers struck by his patrol vehicle after being hit by an impaired driver one night last week.

Trooper C. Aziz was injured and has a long road to recovery, state police said, but did not suffer any broken bones.

Around 3 a.m., she was with an impaired driver who chose to pull over, blocking two lanes of a four-lane highway. While standing next to the vehicle, she was chatting with the driver, the video shows, another vehicle struck the rear of her patrol unit.

As the patrol vehicle continued to record dash camera video, it was thrown forward, striking the stopped car and the trooper on its right side. She was knocked down, but quickly got back on her feet and radioed for backup.

The driver Aziz was speaking with and the driver who hit the patrol vehicle were arrested.
