Usher reveals unconventional diet and fitness routine inspired by his grandmother – The Zimbabwe Mail

LOS ANGELES, June 18 — Music star Usher, 45, opened up about his unique diet and fitness regime, which is inspired by his grandmother’s practices.

In an interview with the WSJ. Magazine, Usher shared details of his weekly fasting routine. “I fast, not for religious purposes, but it’s something my grandmother practiced,” Usher explained. “I fast on Wednesday. I usually try to start around 11pm the day before and then spend all day Wednesday drinking water.

Usher’s commitment to health extends beyond his diet. He follows a meticulous exercise routine to maintain his fitness. “I don’t like to eat breakfast before I’ve exercised or done something physical, walked, stretched or done yoga, sat in the sun and increased my body’s natural heat level. Then I eat,” he explained.

Usher makes sure his workouts are varied to engage different muscle groups. “Normally my workout routine starts with either walking or some knee activations and reverse walking that I do to really engage my quads, knees and glutes,” he said. “Apart from that, swimming is a very good thing to motivate me, as well as cycling. Weightlifting, don’t do a lot of it.

Beyond physical fitness, Usher places particular importance on his mental and emotional health. The “U Remind Me” singer, who recently performed on the Super Bowl Halftime Show, prioritizes moments of reflection each morning.

“I try to wake up early enough to have a moment of reflection. Some days I can pick up a book and read to stimulate my mind. I can sit quietly and meditate,” Usher said. “One thing that is a frequent practice is yoga. It really helps activate my organs and get my mind moving in the right direction – as Tony Robbins would say, “do my move”, you know what I mean?

Usher’s disciplined approach to diet and fitness highlights his commitment to holistic health, drawing inspiration from both his family traditions and contemporary wellness practices.
