Why Infosys offered staff incentives of up to Rs 8 Lakh to move to a new campus

Why Infosys offered staff incentives of up to Rs 8 Lakh to move to a new campus

Information technology giant Infosys is offering its employees incentives of up to Rs 8 lakh to move to its new campus in Hubballi, Karnataka. The move to Hubballi is aimed at increasing its presence in Tier 2 cities.

Easier said than done, the benefits and lifestyle of a Tier 1 city become a challenge for Infosys when it comes to moving to a smaller city, and that is why monetary incentives are proposed.

“It’s your turn to Grow Glocal and consider continuing your career at Hubli DC,” the company said in an email to its employees. The site has “huge growth potential and is waiting for talents like you to build the future,” read the email seen by NDTV Profit.

The Hubballi campus is 400 km northwest of Bangalore, where its headquarters is located, and was established two years ago. The campus has a capacity of 5,000 employees.

The push comes amid criticism from BJP MP and Deputy Leader of Opposition Arvind Bellad questioning the company over its failure to take off campus and land acquisition.

Employees in group three and below are offered Rs 25,000 at the time of transfer and then Rs 25,000 every six months for two years, NDTV Profit reported.

Tier 4 employees will get Rs 50,000 at the time of moving and Rs 2.5 lakh after two years. Level 7 employees will get an offer of Rs 1.5 lakh on transfer and Rs 8 lakh after two years.

The policy is applicable to delivery level 2 employees (project employees) in any development center, the email mentioned, the report added. Infosys is yet to comment on the report.

“I commend Infosys for offering incentives to employees transferring to its Hubballi campus. The move encourages local talent from the Kittur Karnataka region to explore opportunities closer to home, fostering community connections and local development,” said Karnataka Minister of Commerce and Industry on X.

“Infosys’ commitment to state-of-the-art campuses and employment of thousands of engineers globally illustrates its leadership and positive impact on regional economies,” he added.
