Kitchen fire damages two rooms in home that was once a school building in Roswell

ROSWELL — A kitchen fire Monday damaged two rooms in the former Roswell school building, which is now used as a home.

Crews were dispatched to 5587 Main St. SE at 7:30 p.m., according to Sherrodsville Fire Chief Buddy Miller. The damage was limited to the kitchen and the room above.

No one was hurt. Family members were outside the structure when firefighters arrived, he said.

Sherrodsville was assisted by firefighters from Fairfield Township, New Philadelphia, Dover and Uhrichsville. Smith Ambulance was on scene, along with deputies from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.

The 11,448 square foot building opened as a school in 1932. It was closed at the end of the 1965-66 school year after Roswell became part of the new Indian Valley School District.

There is no estimate of the damage.
