‘The Sandlot’ Star Tom Guiry Crashes Car With Dumbbell in Wild Moment Caught on Film

If you have a weakness for The sandy ground and its actors, this one risks erring on the sad side of the fence. Tom Guiry, who played the plucky and affable Scott Smalls in the film, seems to have fallen from grace as an adult. Guiry was arrested June 2 in South Carolina on multiple charges. Including assault, public disorder and malicious damage.

The first salvo was the 35-pound dumbbell that Guiry threw at a guy’s Jeep, according to footage provided to TMZ.

In isolation? This clip is pretty hilarious, especially since there’s no context on how things have escalated up to this point. A shirtless Tom Guiry simply throws a dumbbell at the Jeep and casually – but angrily – walks away. That’s it. Did he get into an argument with a guy in his neighborhood, leave and come back with the dumbbell specifically has throw on the Jeep?

One has to assume this is a neighborhood dispute – unless Guiry is a psychopath who never wears a shirt in public and inexplicably carries dumbbells in the trunk of his car.

The cops were called shortly after and found Guiry in the middle of the street. The situation is stabilizing.

Except that the situation is definitely not getting better. There is a second part, you see. It seems that the owner of the Jeep then told the police about a twist. Guiry approached the guy’s door and rang the bell… with a knife in his hand. (Which you can see in the link at the beginning of this article.)

Thus, Guiry is sent to prison, and the world of “healthy actors that I remember from my childhood” is further compromised. Lose-lose! Smalls went from a bright-eyed, empathetic kid to a knife-wielding, dumbbell-throwing menace. This is a “gentle” version of the life lesson “Never meet your heroes.”

Anyway, since we’re still here: What’s your favorite coming-of-age sports movie from your childhood? The sandy ground was there for me. But my jam was Bad Bear News (the 2005 remake, not the original that everyone universally adores). Who does not have the the biggest critical reception, of course. But he was my champion, damn it!

Plus, there was something about coming-of-age baseball movies that I always found satisfying to watch back in the day. Is it just me? Something about other kids (back then, of course) playing baseball made Child Me so happy. Thank you Guiry. This is another way for my inner child to perish!
