To promote more trees in the places where people live, work, learn and play, the state offers grants to communities and organizations across the Hawaiian Islands to fund tree planting and more.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program offers two grants: Arbor Day 2024 for $3,000 to $5,000 or a General Community Grant for $5,000 to $15,000. The deadline to apply is July 15.

Eligible applicants include schools, religious centers, community groups, state and county agencies and organizations. Projects may include community celebrations on or around Arbor Day (November 2, 2024), tree plantings and giveaways, nursery creation or capacity building, tree management, invasive species for trees, and much more.

Kaulunani staff will host three online Q&A sessions to provide more details on these funding opportunities. The first session is scheduled for Wednesday noon.
