White House sends special message to US cricket team ahead of T20 World Cup Super 8s – WATCH |  Cricket News

NEW DELHI: When the United States cricket team entered the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, few predicted their historic journey to the Super 8s. However, they executed their plans brilliantly, ensuring a place in the Super 8s where they will face South Africa at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Wednesday.


Ahead of the exciting clash, the White House sent a special message to the American cricket team ahead of their encounter with the Proteas in the Super 8s.

“Thank you, John Kirby, White House National Security Communications Advisor, for your kind words. We will be sure to use your encouragement as motivation for our upcoming matches in the West Indies!” the social media account wrote from USA Cricket by posting a video.

“Congratulations to them. They’re now in Super 8. It’s incredible. We congratulate them all on their success. It’s great and we’re cheering for them,” said John Kirby, House national security communications adviser. White, in the video.

USA, who made their debut in the ICC T20 World Cup tournament, started their campaign in impressive fashion by defeating Canada by 7 wickets at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Their next challenge came against 2009 champions Pakistan, where the co-hosts faced a formidable task. Despite their underdog status, the United States pulled out all the stops to surprise Babar Azam’s team in a packed Grand Prairie stadium.

The American bowlers restricted Pakistan to 159 for 7, then leveled that score to force a Super Over. Pakistani star pacer Mohammad Amir won the Super Over, conceding 18 runs in eight balls against the United States.


In response, USA restricted Pakistan to 13/1, winning the thrilling Super Over and adding two valuable runs to their tally.

After the victory, American captain Monank Patel explained how his team managed to contain the Greenshirts.

“Winning the toss and the way we played in the first 6 overs, we took wickets and kept them quiet. We knew they would take risks after their partnership. We knew we were in the game with 160 to chase, we just needed a partnership playing in a World Cup, you don’t get the opportunity to do that every year. We were fully committed on every ball,” the captain said. American.


The United States qualified for the Super 8s of the tournament despite losing its final group match against Ireland due to rain at Broward County Stadium in Florida.

Alongside India, who topped Group A with 7 points from 4 matches, the United States secured their place in the Super 8 by finishing second in the group with 5 points from 4 matches.
