The Stolen Moans – Inspired by the Bard, Betrayal, Chaos and Heartbreak (Trophy Bruise Music)

June 19, 2024

Anticipation. This is what we were waiting for. Like this new one Stolen moans shimmers and shimmers with its fractured and fragile opening sounds, you just know it’s the prelude to something big, a tsunami of sound heading our way. And sure enough, it’s not long before the air explodes with incendiary punk energy and alt-rock moves, swagger, attitude and no shortage of pop-aware accessibility.

“Bard-Inspired, Treachery, Chaos & Heartbreak” is the perfect marriage of punk and pop. But not in the way that once led to a wave of childish, brotherly humor set to tired old beats that hung around after the ska boom. No way. It’s the full force of the punk genre, every ounce of groove and grind, every bit of power and propulsive momentum, every abrasive approach and raw edge crashing headlong through pop territory, plundering and plundering every plot of sugar and spice, contagion and contagion that they can get their hands on, like some sort of Dark Ages sonic raid group.

The result is the perfect blend of the two worlds, a bridge between the mainstream and the cool underground, between the cult and the commercial. A song that doesn’t hold back yet can appeal – perhaps not to all mainstream pop fans, but certainly to the most demanding.

And the fact that, at least, in this pair of old and confused ears, I hear the echoes of everyone from Joan Jettthe hymns to Transvision Vampireit’s great trash-pop for Wolf AliceThe modern vision of such a sound makes me very excited about the future of music. Very happy indeed.

PS: Oh, man! It just clicked. Why did it take me so long to understand the title?
