Life by You creators tried ‘everything’ to avoid cancellation

An old Life through you The developer spoke about his experiences working on the now-canceled life sim, which he said was “a solid project ready to launch to a wide audience.”

Speaking on LinkedIn, designer Willem Delventhal shared his thoughts on the seemingly sudden cancellation of Life through you. He also says he was “advised not to write anything” about it because it could harm his career or even lead to legal action.

According to Delventhal, Life through you was doing “extremely well”, having significantly exceeded an important “internal metric”, and having received a “boost a few weeks before launch”.

Life through you looks like it was doing pretty well before being canned.

Delventhal goes on to say that despite these encouraging signs, Paradox Tectonic was then informed “two weeks before launch” that the game would ultimately not launch.

The team then found out the studio was closing and they would all lose their jobs “via a public announcement.” So it appears there was no internal warning before Paradox published yesterday that Tectonic was shutting down.

According to Delventhal, no reason was given to him or his team regarding Life through youthe closure of; instead, he says the developers “spent a month in purgatory,” trying everything from finding new potential buyers to “going independent” in order to save Life through you.

The paradox Life through you was about to join the sparse pack of Sims competitors.

Rather enigmatically, Delventhal says he has “guesses” about what happened to Life through you behind the scenes, and that while “some of them are understandable”, many are not.

He ends by saying that he is “quite upset” by the situation with Life through youand that the industry has become a place where an AA game that “delivers more than expected” can be shut down two weeks before launch.

Projects in development are frequently canceled, both behind the scenes and publicly. Life through youThe frequent communications of and repeatedly announced release dates (although repeatedly delayed) arguably make it something of an anomaly in this area.

We may never know exactly why Life through you was canceled, but unfortunately it is, so it looks like nothing hits The Sims 4 soon his throne built from Simoleons. Stay tuned for more.
