Ruthven woman faces felony methamphetamine charge after traffic stop in Primghar

Primghar, Iowa — A Ruthven woman was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop in Primghar.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk’s Office by the county Sheriff’s Office, Melea Speelmon, 31, of Ruthven, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, third or subsequent offense. She was arrested on Sunday.

In his statement, the deputy said that during the stop, Speelmon appeared nervous and, when asked if she had any illegal substances, she indicated that she did and produced a baggie containing a white substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Speelmon was charged with possession of methamphetamine, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison.

She faces a preliminary hearing on July 8.

At last report, Speelmon remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
