SUICIDE SILENCE’s CHRIS GARZA names the worst thing about being in a band

Making music requires a critical ear. Whether it’s how it’s written or produced, or even the little details that make a song special, analyzing music is an important part of creating it. And it sucks when you’re just trying to enjoy a new band or song.

In an episode of his Garza Podcast, Suicidal silence guitarist Chris Garza said not being able to turn off this critical part of his brain was the worst part of being in a band.

“The worst thing about being in a band and playing music is you lose your innocent ear. It’s the worst thing,” said Garza. “No matter what band you see, (or hear a) new song or record you listen to, you just go into this analysis mode every time. It sucks, man. You can’t just go to a concert and be like, ‘whoa’ and enjoy it I go see comedians and there’s no filter, I’m just an idiot, I really enjoy it.

Garza also discussed the idea of bands making music together for the first time and why you’ll never get a demo-quality record from a band you love again. Long story short, there is just too much experience and aging.

“There’s something special about doing something for the first time. For bands, it’s like recording a new record. That’s kind of why records sound the way they do when they’re so early in their career .There’s something about not knowing what the hell you’re doing and you can only do it once or twice.

Suicidal silence will release his new album Remember…you must die for March 10. Pre-orders are available here. They will also hit the road with A dying fetus, Born of Osiris, Aborted, Sanguisugabogg, Crown MagnetarAnd Kill the squad.
