‘Cancel NEET too’: Opposition corners Center after NTA cancels UGC-NET exam saying ‘integrity may have been compromised’

Hours after the National Testing Agency canceled the UGC-NET saying “the integrity of the exam was compromised”, the opposition upped the ante on the NEET-UG 2024 row, asking the NDA government-led by the BJP to cancel it too.

Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said, “You often discuss exams, but when will you talk about NEET? The cancellation of the UGC-NET exam is a victory for the spirit of countless girl students and a defeat for Modi’s arrogance. government, which tried to compromise the future of our youth.

Kharge added, “The Union Education Minister had earlier claimed that no documents were leaked in NEET. Yet with the arrests of education mafias in Bihar, Gujarat and Haryana, he now recognizes a scam. When will NEET be cancelled?

The cancellation of the UGC-NET comes amid an ongoing controversy over irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, where questions were raised over grace marks given to some high-performing students.

Congress leader Karti Chidambaram tweeted: “Cancel #NEET too! Exam lacks integrity.”

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “The laxity and corruption of the BJP government is fatal for the youth. With the NEET scam news, the NET exam conducted on June 18 is also canceled due to irregularities. Will liability be established? The Minister of Education take responsibility for this faulty system? »

The Aam Aadmi Party added, “Not a single exam is conducted without fraud or paper leakage under the incompetent BJP government. This government is harming the future of the country, pushing millions of students into despair.

According to an official release from the Ministry of Education, NTA conducted the June 2024 UGC-NET examination in OMR (pen and paper) mode on June 18, 2024 in two shifts in different cities across the country. “On June 19, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received certain inputs from the National Cybercrime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the ‘exam. This information prima facie indicates that the integrity of the aforementioned review may have been compromised,” he said.

In order to ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the ministry said it has decided to cancel the June 2024 UGC-NET exam.
