The Stop TB partnership launches a call for applications for the 2024 Community Prize

Geneva, Switzerland – The Stop TB Partnership is launching a call for applications for the STP Community Award 2024 under the theme “Ending the stigma linked to tuberculosis through art”.

While art forms have played a central role in conveying messages for centuries, for the first time ever, the Stop TB Partnership seeks to use the potential of diverse and dynamic art forms to capture a message aimed at end the stigma linked to tuberculosis.

For the past five years, the Stop TB Partnership has awarded this annual award for excellence in promoting an equitable, rights-based, stigma-free and gender-responsive response to TB. The award specifically targets the efforts of local initiatives, advocacy and engagement in countries with a high TB ​​burden. Stop TB Partnership is pleased to once again partner with the Humana People to People Foundation for the 2024 award.

THEME

This year the theme of the award is “Ending tuberculosis stigma through art” and therefore, nominations for the 2024 award must be:

  • Visual arts: paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, films, cartoons, installations and other forms of visual art
  • Literary arts: short story, play or poem
  • Performing Arts: original musical compositions, songs or theatrical performances (e.g. spoken word, dance etc.)
  • Social Media Art: Reels, short innovative videos for different social media platforms

Entries may choose to involve and/or intersect traditional and modern artistic platforms and mediums.

  1. Nominations should only be made by a TB community, civil society or TB survivor network/organization in countries with a high burden of TB, MDR-TB or TB/HIV. (see chart below for list of countries). An artist must partner with a civil society or community organization to be able to submit their work of art.
  2. An organization can only submit one artwork
  3. The work of art can be an individual work of art or a collective work of art.
  4. The nominated candidate must be:
  • newly created for the purposes of this award
  • reflecting the theme of ending TB stigma

HOW TO SUBMIT

Organizations must submit:

  1. Proof of the part in the following publicly available formats (e.g. Google Drive link):
    A. Visual arts: photography and/or other file type (e.g. JPEG, PNG, PDF)
    b. Performing arts: audio or video file (e.g. mp3, mp4, MOV, etc.
    vs. Literary arts: publicly accessible file (e.g. PDF)
    d. Social media art: link to the post on the relevant platform or video file (ensuring it is publicly visible)
  2. Explanation and context of the artwork, including:
    A. Name(s) of artist(s) and brief history of artist(s)
    b. How was this specific artwork identified and submitted
    vs. Explanation and context of the message “Ending TB Stigma” and the meaning and impact of the article in relation to the theme “Ending TB Stigma”
    d. Reflection on the creativity and innovation of the piece
    e. Explanation of technique and know-how
    F. How the organization intends to use the award funds

Applications that are incomplete or received after this date will not be considered.

SELECTION PROCESS

All applications will be examined by the selection jury. Scoring will be based on:

  • Demonstrated purpose and focus on TB stigma and eliminating TB stigma
  • Creativity and innovation in delivering a message to end TB stigma
  • Technique and know-how in the development of the nominated application
  • Significance and impact regarding ending TB stigma provided by the nominated submission

FINAL DECISION AND WINNERS

The winner(s) will be announced in December 2024 at the Stop TB Nigeria board meeting.
