Swedish shipping company Sirius Shipping has signed a time charter agreement with a fellow maritime fuel supplier Preem for two new methanol ready tankers.

As indicated, the two tankers will be chartered long-term by Preem to mainly distribute finished products, but also to be able to supply the refineries with renewable raw materials. According to Preem, they will form the basis of the company’s next-generation transportation system.

To recall, Sirius Shipping ordered two tankers and two 15,000 dwt methanol-ready tankers from China Merchants Jinling shipyard, Yangzho, in September last year.

The tankers will have a length of 147 meters, a width of 22 meters and a draft of 8.7 meters. They will include 16,800 m3 plus 730 m3 deck tanks, hybrid battery and shore connection.

Sirius Shipping highlighted that the vessels will be prepared for methanol propulsion and will be equipped with the latest technology to comply with future regulations. Norwegian equipment supplier Kongsberg Maritime was contracted to provide design, engineering and equipment for the vessels.

The two sisters fly the Swedish flag with their home port Donsö in the Gothenburg archipelago and will be delivered to Preem in the second half of 2026.

“We look forward to taking delivery of the two sister ships, another result of our long collaboration with Sirius Shipping. Preem has big ambitions to reduce its environmental impact and these two vessels will play an important role in our challenge to achieve climate neutrality by 2035. By investing in new and modern tankers, Preem shows its commitment to sustainability and maritime transport security. At the same time, we help our customers achieve their ambitious goals. » said Daniel Berndolfhead of the shipping department at Preem.
