LDWF announces commercial amberjack season closes on June 30

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) issued an emergency declaration to close the commercial amberjack season at 12:01 a.m. on June 30, 2024. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries announced that The commercial greater amberjack harvest season will close in federal waters at 12:01 a.m. on June 30, 2024 and will remain closed until the start of the regularly scheduled 2025 season, currently January 1, 2025.

This closure is necessary because NOAA Fisheries projects that the annual commercial catch goal of 58,650 pounds whole weight will be achieved by June 30, 2024.

After closing, no person shall harvest, possess, buy, barter, trade, sell or attempt to buy, barter, trade or sell for commercial purposes. Nothing prohibits the sale of Greater Amberjack legally taken before the closure, provided that all commercial dealers possessing Larger Amberjack legally harvested before the closure must maintain appropriate records.
