‘It’s your government…have faith’: Centre’s assurance to students after cancellation of UGC-NET 2024 | Latest news India

A day after the announcement of the cancellation of the UGC-NET 2024 exam, the Center has reassured students that their best interest will be kept in mind when it comes to the national eligibility test . Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan further said that a CBI probe was launched after the Center received information that the exam had been compromised.

Talking about the cancellation of UGC-NET 2024 exam, Dharmendra Pradhan told ANI, “I want to assure students, this is your government…have faith, the interest of students is the key for us… Last night, IC4 indicated on UGC-NET that it was possible that the exam had been compromised. We did research and also felt that the exam was compromised… we canceled the exam and initiated a CBI investigation.

At a press conference on Thursday, the Minister of Education spoke about the cancellation of the exam and said: “We take our responsibilities, we must rectify the system.” He further assured the students that no irregularity or malpractice will be tolerated by the government.

Pradhan said in the press conference that the UGC-NET exam was canceled because the paper was leaked on Darknet. Earlier, the National Testing Agency announced that the test had been canceled because “the integrity of the exam was compromised.”

The education minister also said the Center would form a high-level committee to review the functioning of the NTA in the backdrop of the cancellation of the UGC-NET and the raging row over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam.

“The government will form a high-level committee regarding reforms in the NTA. The committee will make recommendations to further improve the NTA, its structure, functioning, review process, transparency and data security protocols .Zero-error testing is our priority,” Pradhan said in a press conference.

On the NEET issue, Pradhan said, “In connection with the NEET exam, we are in touch with the Bihar government. We receive information from Patna. Protests erupted in different parts of the country after the cancellation of the UGC-NET 2024 exam by the Education Ministry on Wednesday. Around 50 students from different universities were arrested after student groups such as SFI, AISA and NSUI participated in the nationwide protests against the Ministry of Education.
