Kurtistown man caught driving truck with loaded gun granted supervised release: Big Island Now

A 30-year-old Kurtistown man was approved for supervised release this week after being arrested and charged with four misdemeanors for driving a truck with a loaded gun earlier this month.

The defendant, Beau De Dier, was allegedly in possession of a loaded .357 caliber Ruger revolver while driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck on Kanoelehua Avenue in Hilo on June 13, 2024.

The Hawaii County Prosecutor’s Office made the announcement in the following statement on June 21:

De Dier was contacted during a routine traffic stop by members of the South Hilo Patrol on the Stainback Highway. According to police reports, following the execution of a search warrant, officers recovered a loaded .357 caliber Ruger GP100 revolver and a high-powered pistol.

De Dier made his first appearance in Hilo District Court Monday afternoon. On
Over prosecutors’ objections, the Hilo District Court judge released him on supervised release and
ordered him to appear at a preliminary hearing on July 1, 2024.

As the complaint alleges, De Dier is accused of possessing a pistol or revolver,

The offenses are class B misdemeanors that are punishable by up to ten years in prison or four years of probation and up to eighteen months in prison.

The charges are only allegations and the accused is presumed innocent unless
until proven otherwise.

The traffic stop and case was initiated by Officer Andrew Springer of the South Hilo Patrol.
The criminal investigation was led by Detective David Po’ohina, Criminal Investigation Zone I.
