The Copa America began yesterday, June 20, at the Mercedes Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA in the United States. The continental competition began with a match between reigning champions Argentina and Canada. But beyond the beautiful gestures of Lionel Messi, Angel Di María and even the Canadian Alfonso Davis, a message spoken during the opening ceremony of the competition caught the attention of social networks.

“Christ’s message is still relevant today, and he has called us to peace, understanding and forgiveness. He also said: “Believe, for all things are possible to him who believes.” These words encourage us not to lose hope, to believe. for great things, believing that everything is possible. May God bless all the nations of the American continent, every team and every athlete, all the fans, the authorities and the entire continental family, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen!

These words spoken by Pastor Emilio Agüero in Spanish were heard through the stadium loudspeakers as well as through the television broadcast. Then they were repeated in English. Immediately, social media was filled with responses for and against this Christian message.

“The message of the Cross, symbolizing peace, hope and forgiveness, was the central message of the opening ceremony of the Copa America 2024,” said Pastor Juan Cruz Cellamare, president of the Alianza Evangélica Latina (AEL), at the Christian Daily International.

“I personally know Pastor Emilio Aguero Esgaib and I celebrate his involvement in such an important event as the Copa America, raising the message of the Cross. I also know the president of Conmebol (Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol) Alejandro Dominguez, a man of faith. and the Christian life,” he added.

The Copa America takes place from June 20 to July 14 in various cities across the United States with national teams from countries in North, Central, South America and the Caribbean.
