Past and present voice actors from Dora the Explorer can be found on Instagram

Nickelodeon has fans seeing Dora’s double!

Kathleen Herles, who played the character on the children’s series from 2000 to 2007, teamed up with new Dora voice actress Diana Zermeño for an Instagram Reel showing off their best Dora mannerisms. When the educational program restarts in 2024 — titled Dora — Herles, 33 years old, expresses Mami, the mother of Dora de Zermeño.

At the start of the video, Herles joked, “I’m the voice of Dora!” Of course, I grew up doing the voice of his mother on the new show.

The clip also shows 11-year-old Herles and Zermeño the volleying habits they adopted as Dora’s voice actresses, from using her intonation in everyday situations to pausing for an audience response .

Under the Reel, Nickelodeon wrote, “Dora’s new voice and Dora’s OG voice collided…of course it was epic!”

Dora the Explorer aired on Nickelodeon from August 2000 to 2019. Centered on the adventures of a young Latina named Dora Márquez with her monkey friend Boots, the series sought to teach its young audience basic Spanish words.

In February 2022, Paramount+ announced that it would reboot the animated series, which premiered on April 12, 2024. Shortly after DoraUpon launch, the series was renewed for a second season.

Herles opened in 2024 Washington Post interview about its role as a staple of many childhoods. She admitted: “I’ve had this Dora identity since I was 7 – I didn’t know who I was outside of that.”

She recalled that when she landed the role of Mami, “all the memories came back.”

“I remember walking into the booth for the first time (when I was 7) to record for the show, and I never felt safer,” she shared.

THE Dora the Explorer the franchise has become a goldmine of creative content for Nickelodeon. A spin-off series titled Go ahead Diego, go ahead! Following Dora’s Cousin Diego, aired from 2005 to 2011, and in 2019, Paramount Pictures released the live-action film Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Another live-action film, Dora and the search for Sol Doradois in preparation at Nickelodeon Studios.
