Matthew Lewis may have already dedicated a decade of his life to filming Harry Potter, but he’s not sure he’s ready to do more.

The actor, who played Neville Longbottom in all eight films Harry Potter films, tells PEOPLE that he’s “in no rush to get back into the world” for the Harry Potter TV reboot in preparation at Max.

“The reason I took this job in the first place is because I have a very short attention span,” says Lewis, 34. “I’m very, very incapable of maintaining anything for any length of time. I’ve had many, many hobbies and passions over the years. I still don’t have a single one. I’m falling madly in love things and then almost immediately forget about them.

Lewis, who spoke with PEOPLE at New York’s Harry Potter store while unveiling a new green-screen broomstick experience and props from the films on display, admits he’s intrigued by what the showrunners will do with the series, currently scheduled for 2026. He says if someone called him tomorrow and asked him to participate, it would be a tough decision on what to do.

“It’s not something I would consider or want to do but wouldn’t look down on it,” he says. “I’d be very interested to see if it was Neville as an adult – a completely different vibe. That could be interesting. I would definitely look into that and think about it.”

Lewis tells PEOPLE that one of his favorite things about his job is that it’s constantly changing, so he never has to “stick to just one thing.”

“I’ve been a nurse, I’ve been a police officer, I’ve been a soldier, I’ve been a wizard, I’ve been all these different things,” he says. “I never know what’s going to happen next, and I love it.”

When Lewis and his Harry Potter castmate Jason Isaacs (who played Lucius Malfoy) was at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida in February, when they were asked who they would like to play (aside from their original characters) in the TV reboot.

Isaacs opted for Dobby, the house elf, “because you don’t have to wear makeup”, while Lewis said there was no one he “would even want to try to play with”.

After some encouragement from Isaacs, Lewis admitted that Remus’s book character Lupine (played by David Thewlis in the films) was one of his favorites. “If I had to try, this would be the one I would do,” he finally said.

There is one Harry Potter star who almost certainly won’t appear in the reboot – and that’s the man himself. Daniel Radcliffe, the first Boy Who Lived, told ComicBook.com in July 2023 that he had no plans to participate in the new project.

“I’m definitely not looking for it,” he said, adding that the show is a “fresh start” aimed at a new generation of people.

“But I obviously wish them all the luck in the world and I’m very happy that this torch has been passed,” he added about the show. “But I don’t think I need to pass it physically.”

According to Deadline, the reboot is set to run for “10 consecutive years” and feature stories from all seven books written by JK Rowling.
