(KRON) — Saturday and Sunday, BART will replace trains between Rockridge, MacArthur and 19th Street stations with buses due to scheduled maintenance. Riders can expect delays of up to 40 minutes in scheduled maintenance areas.

In addition to the track shutdown, there will be no Red Line service during these weekends. BART said service to and from Millbrae will be via the Yellow Line.

BART said work would take place in the heart of the district on select non-consecutive weekends through 2026.

“Cyclists will experience a smoother, safer, more reliable and quieter ride once this project is completed,” BART said.

Here is a list of the following weekends where the slopes will be closed:

  • June 22-23
  • July 20-21
  • August 17-18
  • September 21-22
  • October 19-20
  • November 2-3

BART said the maintenance was primarily planned to replace a series of interlocks. BART will also replace electrical traction cables, new train control equipment, new digital signage in subway stations through the Berkeley and 12th Street stations, and conduct a “deep cleaning of the stations “.

Due to the area’s limited work space, BART said that instead of using cranes or other heavy equipment, crews would transport materials by rail and attach larger components by hand.
