Message from the Mayor: June 21 | OCNJ daily

Mayor Jay Gillian

Dear friends,

School is out, the weather is getting warmer, and summer is officially here. We have a lot of fun to look forward to, like every summer. But it also means that many people will share the beaches, the promenade, the bay, the city center and the roads.

Please slow down, be courteous and remember to obey all laws that keep everyone safe.

I especially want to remind motorists and pedestrians to obey crosswalk laws. Drivers must stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, and pedestrians must stop and make eye contact with drivers before crossing a roadway. I also want to urge cyclists and e-bikers to obey the rules of the road, including stopping at every stop sign and red light.

Reminders of traffic safety laws are here: ocnj.us/trafficsafety.

Ocean temperatures are still very cool, which will make the beaches a great place to escape the heat this weekend. Visit ocnj.us/ocbp_guarded_beaches to see which beaches are monitored. With students now out of school, the Ocean City Beach Patrol will open many more beaches for the season. The OCBP hopes to be complete by next weekend.

To make everyone’s beach days more enjoyable, please follow these laws and practices: ocnj.us/beach-faqs.

A Taylor Swift tribute and Kenny G performance Monday and Tuesday open the 2024 Summer Concert Series at Ocean City Music Pier. Ticket information for the entire series is available here: ocnj.us/SummerConcertSeries. Bernadette Peters opens the 2024 Ocean City Pops season on June 30, and information about the entire season is available here: oceancitypops.org.

We announced today that Philadelphia Eagles veteran Brandon Graham and his family will be special guests and will participate in the 2024 Night in Venice Boat Parade on July 20. Brandon represents everything Philly fans love, and it’s a great honor to have the Grahams join us. They will receive a warm welcome from everyone in Ocean City. Shortly after Night in Venice, Brandon will report to training camp for his 15th season with the Eagles.

I hope you will all join me in congratulating Marie Sesso, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Marie is a resident of The Shores in Ocean City who celebrated this milestone on June 13.

Have a great weekend and be sure to enjoy all that Ocean City has to offer.

Sincerely,

Mayor Jay A. Gillian
