Donegal diving event canceled after Teelin Pier tragedy

A diving event in Donegal has been canceled following the death of a man on Saturday.

Organized by the Donegal Bay Sub Aqua Club, more than 100 divers took part in the North West Dive Rally at Teelin Pier.

However, following the death of a diver in his forties during the event and the hospitalization of another in his sixties, the decision was taken to cancel the two days of the event.

The local coroner has been informed and an autopsy will be carried out on the body of the deceased.

While the man in his 60s continues to receive treatment for serious injuries at University Hospital Galway.

Gardaí, emergency services, Killybegs Coastguard and a Rescue 118 all assisted in the search.
