Manchester Airport boss issues statement after cancellation of all Terminal 1 and 2 flights

A Manchester Airport boss has offered his “sincere apologies” after a power cut caused a flight to be canceled and serious delays.

All flights at Terminals 1 and 2 were canceled after a power outage around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday June 23. Manchester Airport chief executive Chris Woodroofe apologized on X, formerly Twitter.




He said: “I have just left my incident response team to deliver this message. First of all, this is an apology. My sincere apologies, my personal apologies to every passenger who was affected by what happened passed Manchester airport today.

“There was a big power surge in our electrical system due to an outage earlier this morning and that damaged some really critical equipment in our departure security and our departure baggage systems, which prevented Terminals 1 and 2 to operate take off the plane today.

“As a result, we were unable to land these aircraft either at the time of arrivals as there was no space to park these aircraft at the airfield. We are working very closely with our airlines to seek to resume operations and understand what passengers may be booked on future flights.

Mr Woodroofe thanked the airport’s partner airlines, his team and staff as they worked in “very difficult circumstances”. He added that normal service should resume tomorrow.
