Carnival won’t follow sister line with sweet offerings

Hot on the heels of Holland America Line’s announcement of a candy partnership with Lindt & Sprüngli For onboard chocolate offerings, Carnival Cruise Line responded to guest inquiries about their own story. Unfortunately, the answer may not be what chocolate lovers were hoping to hear.

Loyal cruise passengers hungry for Holland America Line’s chocolate offering – a “Sweet Dreams” turndown service featuring Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate or sea salt milk chocolate truffles – have contacted the company’s ambassador brand Carnival Cruise Line, John Heald. After all, Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line are both owned by Carnival Corporation & plc.

“Diamond/Platinum Cruisers on (social media) want chocolate chunks on pillows again” a guest identified as “S” mentioned to Heald. “It was a nice souvenir from the cruise. I’m always very disappointed to come home without them.

Years ago, Carnival guests were greeted with a simple square of milk chocolate (and even more years ago, a chocolate mint) wrapped in Carnival Cruise Line’s iconic foil on their pillows after turndown service each day. Heald, however, confirmed that this practice would not return.

“We stopped this many years ago and the savings helped fund the introduction of Guy’s Burgers across the fleet. » » said Heald with a touch of humor.

Guy’s Burger Joint is a popular free restaurant on Carnival ships, offering signature smash burgers in several varieties as well as hand-cut fries. On some ships, exclusive burgers are offered, as are the Italian-themed recipes on board Venice Carnival And Florence Carnival which include pepperoni and mozzarella.

In partnership with Food Network superstar and larger-than-life personality Guy Fieri, Guy’s Burger Joint was introduced for the first time on board Liberty Carnival in 2011. As more ships were built or renovated with Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades, the site was added to more ships. Today, Guy’s Burger Joint can be found aboard 26 of the 27 Carnival cruise ships – only Bright Carnival does not have the place.

Heald offers another humorous, if not delicious, reason why chocolates might have been abandoned.

“When guests spilled or crushed some chocolate on the bed and the more they tried to explain to the flight attendants that it was melted chocolate, the more it seemed like it wasn’t chocolate,” he said.

In addition to laughter, there was mixed reaction from guests to Heald’s confirmation of the loss of the chocolates. Some cruise passengers remember this treat fondly, while others don’t miss the chocolate but miss the night’s turndown service.

It’s worth noting that Carnival ships also offer chocolates in numerous ways for chocolate lovers who still crave a late-night fix. Signature hot chocolate fondant cake is available in each main dining room for dinner dessert every night, and chocolate ice cream and froyo are often offered free at Swirls. Cherry on Top gift shops also offer a selection of chocolate treats and candies.

How many chocolates?

It’s unclear whether Heald really wants to know whether savings on simple chocolate pillows may have financed the introduction of the burger restaurant. While such a financial comparison may be unlikely, it is important to note that evening chocolates for every guest on just one of the line’s Excel-class ships – Mardi Gras, Carnival celebrationOr Carnival Jubilee – would be 1.9 million chocolates per year.

For Carnival Cruise Line’s entire fleet of 27 ships, 89,000 chocolates would be used each night if each ship sailed at double occupancy. For one year, this would total more than 32.4 million chocolates!
