“You’re going to change your mind.”

  • Naomi Campbell, 54, revealed she had both of her children through surrogacy and was a single mother.

  • “I understand it’s difficult economically. But my mother had nothing and she made it work,” Campbell told The Times of London.

  • She added that many young women don’t want to become mothers, but think they will eventually change their minds.

Naomi Campbell says she had her two children after age 50 through surrogacy.

In an interview with The Times of London published Friday, the model spoke about motherhood and her hopes for her children.

In 2021, Campbell revealed on Instagram that she had welcomed her first child, a daughter. In 2023, at age 53, she announced the birth of her son. Both of these Instagram posts have since been deleted.

“My babies are everything to me. It made me fear for the future,” Campbell told the Times.

After confirming to the outlet that she had her children via surrogacy, Campbell shared that she is a single mother.

“I hope for a better world for my children. They are my priority 110%. I have to be there for them from their first day of school,” she said.

Campbell added that she knows the younger generation isn’t interested in becoming parents, but she thinks they will eventually change their minds.

“I heard a lot of young girls say it was too expensive to have kids and maybe they didn’t want them, and I said, ‘You’re going to change your mind. You’ll want to to be a mother.’ I understand it’s tough economically, but my mom had nothing and she was able to do it, it’s so amazing,” Campbell said.

“We have to rely on the younger generation to change this world. I trust my children more than us to do the right thing,” she added.

A 2021 Pew Research study found that more and more Americans are not interested in having children.

Child care costs are also rising: Business Insider estimates that parents could spend at least $25,714 to care for a child this year, an increase of 41.5% from 2016.

Campbell kept her children’s lives private. She avoided sharing photos of their faces or even their names in public. Even the photos of her children that she shared on Instagram in May – where she is standing by the water with two children, one in her arms and holding the other’s hand – are taken from behind.

In 2022, Campbell told British Vogue that she had always wanted to be a mother.

“I always knew that one day I would be a mother, but this is the greatest joy I can imagine. I’m lucky to have her and I know it,” Campbell said.

At the time, she also said she encouraged all her older friends to have children.

“I tell them all, do it! Don’t hesitate!” » said Campbell.

A representative for Campbell did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent outside of normal business hours.
