Is All American canceled? Is season 6 the last season?

CW Season 6 All American is almost over and some fans fear this could be the final season of the football drama. Keep reading to see if All American is canceled, along with more details on the future of the series.

East All American canceled?

For now, the answer is no. In June 2024, All American has been renewed for a 13-episode seventh season, but the show’s long-term future is still up in the air due to major casting changes and alleged budget cuts.

Ahead of the final two episodes of Season 6, news broke that the series’ lead actor, Daniel Ezra, will not be returning for Season 7 as a series regular. Ezra has played rising football star Spencer James since the series began in 2018, and his departure comes shortly after Spencer was recruited by the NFL. While the British actor’s departure is a creative decision unrelated to rumors of the show’s budget being cut, it signals a significant shift in storytelling and new casting exits.

As our sister site Deadline reported in April 2024, All American will have to cut costs in order to maintain its high licensing fees (the amount the CW pays Warner Bros. to air the show), which is north of $1 million per episode. One way to do this is to replace the cast with new generation characters, like many high school and college series such as Joy And Friday night lights have done. The series appears to be adopting this strategy with the closure of Spencer’s storyline, although there is no news yet on potential new cast members.

The deal allows the streaming giant to broadcast every season of All American eight days after the respective season finales aired on the CW. “It makes things a little more interesting for everyone,” CW Entertainment president Brad Schwartz told Deadline in May 2024.

All American: Homecoming also had a licensing deal with Netflix, but the streamer chose to cover only the existing three seasons of the series, leading to major budgetary issues and its cancellation in June 2024. The spinoff centered around a group of he students at the fictional Bringston University, a prestigious historically black college, as they navigate college life and pursue their dreams.
