Rutgers football announces date for annual Blackout Game

The return of college football means the return of theme nights at SHI Stadium. This week, Rutgers Football announced that the blackout game will take place on September 27 when Washington visits Piscataway. The game, presented by Horizon, will air on FOX at 8 p.m.

As all eyes in college football will be on Rutgers, fans are encouraged to wear black and arrive early to view the pregame light and fireworks show. For the first time during the 2024 campaign, Rutgers players will wear their black uniforms and helmets. A Rutgers Blackout t-shirt will also be given to fans as they enter the stadium.

Plus, pre-game festivities will feature some of the state’s best food trucks and live entertainment. Gifts will include “Beat Washington” buttons and shakers. Football letter winners and the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024 will be honored during the game.

Coming into this game, Rutgers will look to pick up its first win against Washington in school history. The Scarlet Knights are 0-2 against the Huskies all-time. These two programs last faced each other in 2017.

Although these programs have faced each other before, this will be the first matchup between the two Big Ten schools. Last season, Washington was in the Pac-12.

The only other themed game announced is the ‘Community gamewhich will take place on September 7, when Akron visits SHI Stadium.
