10 players the Blue Jackets should consider at No. 4 overall

Artyom Levshunov

Artyom Levshunov would be a great pick for the Blue Jackets at fourth overall. He’s one of the most complete defenders in the entire draft, and a future right side with him and David Jiricek involved is very attractive.

Levshunov is 6’2″ and already has a professional build at 210 pounds. As a late birthday boy, he’s one of the oldest players in the entire draft and I expect him to be an NHLer by 2025.

He can be productive offensively, but he is also an active defender, capable of using his size, strength, skating and reach to break up plays. It’s a versatile beast, doing everything with confidence and to a high standard.

By the time it’s all said and done, he could be a 20-25 minute-a-night NHL defenseman who contributes in all situations. He and Buium are neck and neck at the top of this draft for me, and it might just come down to a matter of style when teams decide which one they prefer.

Why they should take it: Levshunov fills a huge hole on the Blue Jackets’ future right side. He could even surpass Jiricek as the best defensive prospect on this roster.

Why they should avoid it: Really, there’s no reason. Taking Levshunov fourth overall would be a nice little win for the Jackets in this draft.
