Marcus Smart breaks silence on Celtics’ NBA championship win

Having spent his entire career with the Boston Celtics before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, veteran guard Marcus Smart was the heart and soul of Boston in many ways. While it certainly hurt the Celtics to deal Smart last summer, it was a move that undoubtedly improved their team.

Appearing on a recent episode of the Run Your Race podcast, Smart shared his honest reaction to Boston’s NBA championship win after trading him, saying he was happy for his former teammates.

“Thank you to Jaylen (Brown), Jayson (Tatum) and the Boston Celtics. Congratulations on the championship,” Smart said. “They built this. They walked through the mud. They didn’t skip a step. I’ve been with them for nine years of my career and I’ve seen it. It’s no coincidence that they achieved their goal. I’m so proud of them. I’m proud to be in the trenches with them, to know these guys and to be able to work with them every day that I had the chance to do so.

Smart also spoke about his honest feelings about his inability to finish what he started with the Celtics, saying, “I know everyone expects me to be salty and shitty… He doesn’t There’s no hard feelings on my part. It’s definitely a It’s really tough because I was in the trenches with them Not being able to finish what you started with those guys is really tough, but man. , my wife will tell you that I was screaming for these guys when they won as much as anyone else, because I love these guys and I know the work they did.
