W&M Cross Country announces 2024 schedule

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia. – Alex Heacock, William & Mary director of athletics and cross country, announced the 2024 cross country schedule on Wednesday. The schedule includes five regular season events, with the CAA Championships scheduled for November at Elon .

W&M opens the season close to home for the second year in a row and the seventh time in the last nine seasons, competing in the Spider Alumni Open at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Virginia on Saturday, August 31. Last season, the Tribe finished second on the women’s side and fourth on the men’s side.

The Tribe will race twice in September. First, the Green and Gold make the short trip to compete in the CNU XC Invitational for the second time in three seasons on Friday, September 13. W&M is also participating in the Adidas XC Challenge on Friday, September 20. For the second consecutive season, the Tribe competed in the Raleigh, North Carolina event. W&M finished second in both men’s and women’s competition in 2023.

October competition begins with the tribe’s first trip to the Pirate Cross Country Invitational on Friday, October 4. East Carolina hosts the event on its course at Overton’s Lake Kristi.

The tribe heads to the Panorama Farms XC Invitational in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday, October 19. This is the fourth consecutive season that W&M will participate in the event.

The championship season begins with the CAA Championships on Friday, November 1. Conference competition returns to Elon’s cross country course for the first time since 2017. Last season, the men’s team placed third at the CAA championship with four all-league runners. , and the women’s team placed three runners on the all-conference team and finished fourth.

The NCAA Southeast Regional Championships will be held on Friday, November 15 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The top two men’s and women’s teams will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, with 13 other at-large bids up for grabs nationally. , based on the results of the entire season. The top four athletes who are not part of a qualifying team will also earn an automatic spot at the national competition, as will two other nationally selected athletes. The NCAA Championship will take place on Saturday, November 23 in Madison, Wisconsin.
