Swimwear brand criticized for Rosa Parks-inspired bikini

When you think of the civil rights movement, what is the first thing that comes to mind? If it’s “BEACHWEAR,” I guess this is the product for you: Swimwear brand’s Rosa Parks-inspired BIKINI is making waves online.

The brand is Divino Seas, based in Guatemala. Someone posted a photo of the product page and people went crazy. . . Not in a good way.

Rosa became a civil rights icon after she was arrested in Alabama in 1955 for refusing to give up his seat to a white man on a bus. SO . . . not really known for beach fashion.

Other than calling her “Rosa”, there’s actually no nod to her. The product description is vague and doesn’t actually say HOW it’s a tribute.

The top and bottom are sold separately and retail for $162 total, but they were on sale for half that amount. And as of last night, the tops were sold out.

I don’t know if that makes it better or worse, but the same company also offers bikinis named after other revolutionary women in history. There’s a hip little number called “Eleanor”, inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt.
