Bristol Beacon event canceled after police safety advice

An event celebrating those who came to Bristol as part of the Windrush generation was canceled last weekend after police issued safety advice at the venue. The dancehall show, which included a mini-showcase of black Caribbean artists featuring Masicka and Malie Donn, was scheduled to take place on Friday, June 21.

But the event had to be canceled at the last minute after “reports of safety and security issues” were reported at the venue, although the nature of those issues was not made public. The Bristol Beacon posted a statement on its website Friday confirming the cancellation.

A Bristol Beacon spokesperson later told Bristol Live: “In light of credible information received from local authorities, Bristol Beacon has taken the difficult decision to cancel the show. This action has been taken on the basis of the expert advice of those authorities.

At Bristol Beacon, the safety and well-being of the public, staff and local residents are of the highest priority. We are actively working to reschedule the Back A Yard performance and will provide additional updates as soon as possible,” the spokesperson added.

A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said safety advice was given at the venue and the event was therefore cancelled. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We provided security advice to the venue ahead of an event they were due to host. Following this, the venue took the decision to cancel the event. event.”

According to the Bristol Beacon website, ticket holders will receive a full refund.
