Burglar arrested after returning to crime scene

Burlington police made a quick arrest in a business burglary Wednesday when the alleged culprit broke the cardinal rule of the experienced and professional criminal.

Hugo Calderon Chavez apparently returned to the crime scene after setting off a burglar alarm while forcing his way into a Family Dollar at 908 East Webb Avenue.

According to the Burlington Police Department, officers found the 26-year-old Burlington resident inside the store when they arrived at 1:14 a.m. Officers also noticed a broken front door and damaged merchandise and furniture inside the building.

During their investigation, police learned that Chávez had left the business after the first break-in, only to reappear before arriving on scene. They therefore charged him with two counts of breaking and entering and damaging real property.
