MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — When the Carl Hansen & Son (CHS) team approached Room & Board with an outdoor furniture collection opportunity, executives at the Top 100 furniture retailer knew this line would be a good fit .

“CHS saw an opportunity for one of its new outdoor lines designed by Alfred Homann, which uses Teak certified by the Forest Stewardship Council,” said Gene Wilson, vice president of vendor management and merchandising. from Room & Board. “We were very interested in integrating wood into our outdoor assortment and so it was an intriguing idea, especially as we have long admired Carl Hansen & Son and the design, quality and craftsmanship that they contribute to their products. And with so many points of alignment – ​​the emphasis on durability, quality and craftsmanship as well as timeless design – it’s a solid choice.

The collection includes FSC-certified teak.

The new collection checks several boxes for Room & Board, according to Wilson. In addition to the addition of FSC-certified teak for the exterior, the CHS collection features an exclusive line created by Alfred Homann, an award-winning Danish architect and designer who founded his own studio in Copenhagen in 1978 at the age of 30. architecture as well as furniture and lighting design, Homann’s outdoor collection offers 10 items including seating and dining for outdoor spaces.

“Both CHS and Room & Board were interested in making this introduction as customers think about their outdoor spaces to give them an additional option to consider,” Wilson said. “Customers have absolutely given priority to extending their living spaces outdoors: they want comfortable, timeless, quality products that enhance their outdoor experience and are also weather-resistant. »

Room & Board launched its first outdoor products in 2002, Wilson said. Since then, the retailer has expanded its offerings to include seating, dining tables and chairs, pillows and rugs, and recently added its first outdoor kitchen and entertainment storage units that incorporate refrigeration from Room & Board’s partner, True Residential. The CHS collection ranges in price from $705 for a chaise to $2,480 for a dining table.

The new group includes seating and dining.

Wilson noted that the exterior strategy mirrors the goals for interior items.
