The new generation show Star Trek: Discovery ended its five seasons earlier this year. The emotional ending of the series was appreciated by fans and critics alike, with most of the character arcs ending with satisfaction. Although actor Doug Jones, who played Saru, mentioned that he was happy with the ending, he didn’t mind returning to the series.

According to Jones, the cast did not feel like the fifth season would be the end, as the decision to end the series was a surprise. He mentioned in an interview with Trek Movie that the producers had plans for a sixth season, but the decision came from the higher ups. Therefore, the creators had to wrap up many arcs quickly in the final season.

Although he is happy with Saru’s arc of marrying T’Rina and becoming an ambassador, Jones mentioned that he would be open to returning to the series. He said,

I think so, if we had come back I would have been willing to do all 10 episodes again. Remember we started season 1 with 15 episodes. So the 10 episode model was much more acceptable, living away from home in Toronto.

Jones also reportedly wondered where his character could have gone if they had decided to extend for multiple seasons, as he knew the producers had more plans. He also mentioned that despite the satisfying arc, the ending was bittersweet.
