Stephen A. Smith Reports Phoenix Suns Are Ready to Part ways with Kevin Durant (Video)

Ahead of NBA draft, Stephen A. Smith ESPN members Brian Windhorst and Max Russo joined us to discuss tonight’s event and some of the rumors circulating. A hot topic is Kevin Durant and the uncertainty surrounding its relationship with the Phoenix Suns.

Yesterday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Houston Rockets were preparing and loading up on draft picks to offer to Kevin Durant. This location is a surprise, as the Rockets aren’t necessarily a player away from competing. However, it seems that Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka, who likes Durant, wants him now.

Stephen A. Smith went deeper in his report this morning on ESPN’s First Take, explaining where Phoenix and Houston stand so far.

“Don’t pay attention to what Phoenix says. They want to move on from Kevin Durant now,” Smith said this morning. “Houston doesn’t want Kevin Durant; Ime Udoka may want to, but organizationally they know they’re not there yet. Their projects are therefore longer term.

It makes sense; most would think Durant would want to join a winning situation. However, with the NBA full of parity and reporters like Scoop B reporting yesterday that the Dallas Mavericks were also interested, it seems increasingly likely that Durant will join a new team.

Smith also mentioned that the Rockets organization would be more interested in someone like Devin Booker, a young player who can grow with the team but has enough experience to help the team progress. The first round of the NBA draft will be full of surprises, and we’ll see if Durant leaving Phoenix is one of them.
