Vaughan criticizes T20 semi-final scheduling that favors India

The most awaited stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup is here. Out of 20 teams, 4 teams reached the semi-final stage. South Africa and Afghanistan face each other in the first semi-final. The Brian Lara Stadium witnesses a breathtaking match. But Afghanistan’s batting in the first innings was nothing short of a nightmare. After that, Michael Vaughan’s recent tweets attracted attention.

Afghanistan’s heartbreaking performance:

After showing incredible effort throughout the group stage and Super Eight stage, Afghanistan made their first entry into the semi-finals. They beat Bangladesh spectacularly in their last Super Eight match. But they got off to an unforgettable start. As they batted in the first inning, they got off to a horrible start. In the first round, Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed on a duck. It was a huge setback. Another opener, Ibrahim Zadran left by scoring 2 points in 5 balls.

The setbacks continued. Gulbadin Naib scored 9 runs in 8 balls. Azmatullah Omarzai scored 10 runs in 12 balls. This is the highest score for the Afghan team. Skipper Rashid Khan departed after scoring 8 runs. South African bowlers thrived on this pitch. Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi got three wickets each. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje got 2 wickets each. They dominated Afghanistan and finished their innings with just 56 runs. This is the lowest total in the T20 World Cup.

Tweets from Michael Vaughan:

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has attributed Afghanistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup semi-final defeat to South Africa to what he believes favors India. Vaughan criticized the schedule on social media, highlighting how it disadvantaged Afghanistan in their preparations for the crucial match against South Africa in Trinidad.

First, he emphasized that Afghanistan had less time to prepare. While talking about this, he said, “So Afghanistan qualifies for the semi-win of the World Championship in St Vincent on Monday evening. Flight delay of 4 hours on Tuesday in Trinidad, so no time to train or get used to a new place.. total lack. out of respect for the players, I’m afraid..”

He later responded to a fan who told him that Afghanistan had played at this venue earlier in the tournament. Vaugh said: “I know, but it’s still a different venue… surely you deserve the right, in a semi-final, to have at least a day of preparation…”.

Vaughan on Favoring India:

His last tweet got attention. The T20 World Cup semi-final should have been held in Guyana rather than Trinidad, according to Michael Vaughan. He suggested that the schedule adjustments favored India, prompting the change and potentially impacting Afghanistan’s preparation for their crucial match against South Africa.

Vaughan said: “This semi-final should surely have been Guyana’s… but with the whole event being geared towards India, it’s so unfair on the others…”
