Laura Coates leaves Byron Donalds silent on Trump trial

CNN anchor and former federal prosecutor Laura Coates left the representative. Byron Donalds (R-FL) silenced after claiming that former President that of Donald Trump His rights were violated at his secret trial in Manhattan, where he was convicted of falsifying business records to hide payments to a porn star.

Donalds, a potential vice presidential candidate for Trump’s 2024 ticket, appeared on Laura Coates live, where the host asked him, ahead of Thursday’s presidential debate, whether Trump would focus on “kitchen table issues” rather than “personal grievances” or his “legal troubles.”

On that note, the lawmaker pushed back against criticism of the former president’s repeated discussions of his trial at rallies, and defended Trump against what he called a “parody” and predicted that a court of law appeal would overturn the verdict.

Donalds said: “I’ve been on the trail with (the former) president. I listened to his words, whether in Detroit, the South Bronx or Philadelphia. I have seen him make this point to the American people time and time again. Of course he’s talking about what’s happening in Lower Manhattan because ultimately his constitutional rights were violated in that Manhattan courtroom. And every legal commentator, virtually every legal scholar, agrees that this case is going to be overturned on appeal because he didn’t even do what he was arguing against.”

The legislator then cited the recent Supreme Court

decision in Erlinger v. United States decision, in which the Court determined that “the Fifth and Sixth Amendments require a unanimous jury to verify beyond a reasonable doubt that a defendant’s prior offenses occurred on separate occasions” in the context of possession illegal firearms.

He continued: “The Supreme Court just came out the other day and said that if you’re going to convict someone, the jury has to be consistent about the actual crimes that didn’t take place in Lower Manhattan.

Donalds added: “But ultimately, Donald Trump, of course, talks about it, but the overarching message is what his administration, when he returns as the 47th president, will mean for the American people. And I guarantee you. It will be far better for all Americans than the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration.”

Coates, who boasts a 20-year legal career and is the network’s chief legal analyst, responded: “Just for the public’s edification, you’re talking about the nuance of New York’s jury instructions.” York that they did not have to do so. agree on the underlying crime that would elevate it from a misdemeanor to a felony, but they had to be unanimous in their overall decision.

She added: “I will be very curious to see how this plays out at the appeal level. And of course, what the Supreme Court says about

a very urgent question.
