GIG HARBOR, Wash. – The growing need for water conservation intensified after the Washington Department of Ecology declared a drought emergency for nearly the entire state in April. To help save water every day, Washington Water Service now offers customers a free conservation kit and discounts on indoor and outdoor water-saving appliances. Washington residents can take these simple steps that will save water and ultimately help improve the resiliency of the water supply.

“Washington Water is here to help our customers save water every day,” said Matt Brown, general manager. “By offering these new conservation resources, we aim to help our customers make those small changes that lead to big results.”

Washington Water customers can request a free conservation kit online at wawater.com/kit. Each kit includes items that can help the average family save thousands of gallons of water each month, including two high-efficiency shower heads. The kit also includes:

  • Two high-efficiency bathroom faucet aerators

  • A high-efficiency kitchen faucet aerator

  • A garden hose nozzle with shut-off valve

  • Toilet Leak Detection Tablets

A leaking toilet is one of the most common indoor leaks and also one of the easiest to identify. Using the leak detection tablets, customers can determine if their toilet is sending water down the drain between flushes.

Plus, if it’s time to update those toilets, Washington Water customers may be eligible for a rebate of up to $50 on an approved high-efficiency model. A toilet manufactured before 1993 can use between 3.5 and 7 gallons of water per flush, while a modern WaterSense labeled toilet uses about one gallon per flush.

Older models of washers can also be responsible for wasting water. Customers may also be eligible for up to $150 off an approved high-efficiency washer.

Outdoors is another great opportunity to save water. High-efficiency sprinkler nozzles apply water more slowly and evenly, minimizing runoff. Customers can receive up to $5 off per upgraded nozzle. Better yet, it’s best to upgrade to a smart irrigation controller, which can be programmed to water at specific times and automatically adapt to weather conditions. Customers can receive up to $125 off eligible smart controllers.

Washington Water also offers trade rebates for toilets, urinals and irrigation equipment. To learn more about all these discounts, visit: wawater.com/rebates.
