Genesis presents the new Gran Turismo Racer conceptGenesis

Known for its exceptional luxury offerings and boundary-pushing designs, Genesis isn’t the first company that comes to mind when it comes to track-prepped single-seaters, but the Korean automaker is now making its mark in a number of areas. After debuting its Gran Berlinetta concept in late 2023, Genesis unveiled another digitally-born track-focused racer, the X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept, at the Busan International Mobility Show on Wednesday.

Now, before you check your credit limit and your FIA racing license requirements, it’s important to note that both of these race-ready concepts are more for show than anything else. As Genesis continues to focus on expanding its technological prowess, the creation of these real-world concepts coincides with their appearance in the popular video game Gran Turismo.

In a similar vein, the latest iteration of Genesis, the X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept, builds on its predecessor, the Gran Berlinetta Concept. Built on the same long wheelbase and mid-engined chassis, the X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept retains the same racing Lambda II V6 engine and revs it up. Designed with a hybrid powertrain augmenting the V6 engine, Genesis claims the X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo concept would develop 1,540 horsepower and 1,051 lb-ft of torque, reaching 10,000 rpm.

Notably, the internal combustion engine produces around 60% of the available power, while the front electric motor provides 670 hp of the available 1,540 hp. Additionally, the X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept goes beyond its predecessor, adding 479 hp to the Gran Berlinetta’s 1,071 hp.

Channeling more than 1,500 horsepower to all four wheels presents a significant challenge in maintaining traction, and Genesis relies on aerodynamics to keep its hypercar in line. Active aerodynamic flaps raise and lower as needed to ensure an optimal level of airflow over critical surfaces, while a flat underbody and carbon fiber wing allow for minimally turbulent airflow under and over- above the car. Additionally, Genesis says it has included a larger front splitter, a rear diffuser and a number of canards on the front fascia to further channel air around the concept unit.

Inside the Gran Turismo X Gran Racer Vision Concept, Genesis claims to have been inspired by “The Beauty of White Space,” otherwise known as minimalism. Given its track-focused design, the majority of the interior is designed with structural integrity and functionality in mind. From the control switches integrated into a structural divider to the full roll bar and steering crown, the Gran Turismo X Gran Racer Vision Concept is technically equipped for the task at hand, even if it’s not likely to hit a real track anytime soon.
