Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized Biden’s plans for student loan forgiveness as “completely unfair,” despite documents showing that her own company received $183,504 in Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness in 2020.

On Wednesday, the Biden administration announced plans to cancel $10,000 in student debt for most borrowers, fulfilling a campaign promise and extending relief to millions of borrowers. U.S. residents earning less than $125,000 per year are eligible for loan forgiveness.

In her interview on Newsmax TV, Taylor Greene said the plan was unfair to taxpayers who never took out student loans.

The Georgia Republican added that she opposed the student loan program, saying: “There should not be a system in place that allows and encourages them to accumulate massive debt at these great colleges and universities.” .

Data from ProPublica, a tracking site that uses data from the Small Business Association, shows that Taylor Green was one of several Republican members of Congress whose private loans were forgiven.

The data shows the total amount forgiven was $183,504, which represented the full forgiveness of the original $182,300 loan, plus accrued interest. The majority of the relief issued in April 2020 was used for payroll, the data shows.

The Small Business Association did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment, which was made outside of normal business hours.

Taylor Greene’s website states that she and her husband, Perry Greene, purchased her family’s construction business, Taylor Commercial, Inc., before her election.

Representatives for Taylor Commercial and Taylor Greene did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Taylor Greene also criticized the Biden administration for having a purely political agenda for the student loan plan, telling Newsmax TV that it was seeking “to attract blue votes in November.”
