Ottawa firefighter rescues kitten stuck in fishing hook

A rookie firefighter proved he has very safe hands when he came to the aid of a local kitten this week.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to the 100 block of Maple Lane around 1 a.m. Thursday after a 5-month-old kitten named Sammy had a three-pronged fishing hook with a swivel hooked into his nose.

It took a trainee firefighter about 20 minutes to safely remove the hook from Sammy’s nose using side cutters.

Sammy was cleaned up and OFS was informed that he was doing very well and back to his old self.
