1 Person Arrested, Fentanyl Seized During Traffic Stop in Wheeler County

More than 12 pounds of suspected fentanyl were seized Thursday and the driver arrested after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle in Wheeler County, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said.

At approximately 8:14 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, a DPS officer stopped a 2014 Chevrolet Impala traveling east on Interstate 40 near Shamrock for a traffic violation. The trooper found several packages of fentanyl wrapped in plastic in the rear panels, DPS said.

Special agents from the DPS Criminal Investigation Division and Drug Enforcement Administration special agents were contacted and assisted in the investigation.

The driver of the Impala, Jose Martinez-Cisneros, 26, of Hollister, Calif., was arrested and booked into the Wheeler County Jail on a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

According to reports, the drugs were transported from Phoenix, Arizona to Riley, North Carolina.
