Bishop Ready wrestling coach charged with child sex crimes

Anthony Aeillo is accused of telephone harassment, public indecency and sexual assault. The victim in this case is aged 13 to 15, according to police.

The case dates back to September 2023, when prosecutors say Aeillo touched the teen’s genitals while they were in bed together. Court records indicate the victim was asleep, but it adds that when the teen woke up, Aiello was still touching him.

The documents then state that the teen asked Aeillo to leave. Aeillo claims he was having the “wildest dream” and was “flabbergasted.”

In November, detectives say there was evidence that Aeillo revealed himself and touched himself during a Facetime call.

No one was home when we went to the address listed in court documents to see if they would be willing to comment on the charges.

Aeillo’s bail is now set at $1,000.

Bishop Ready and the Catholic Diocese of Columbus say he is no longer an active wrestling coach at the school. He has coached wrestling for Bishop Ready every year since 2017.

The Diocese of Columbus released this statement regarding the charge against Aeillo:

Anthony Aiello has been employed annually as a wrestling coach by Bishop Ready High School since 2017. Anthony Aiello is no longer employed by the Diocese of Columbus. Bishop Ready and the Diocese of Columbus firmly hold to a zero-tolerance policy that holds all staff and volunteers to a high standard of conduct.

The safety and well-being of students is of the utmost importance to the administration and the Diocese of Columbus. The Diocese of Columbus takes child protection seriously and remains vigilant in combating the perception and reality of child abuse.

The diocese and the school say they have no further comment beyond what they have provided.
