Tavius Robinson ready to build on strong rookie season

Robinson has been a fixture at the Under Armour Performance Center for most of the offseason, working alongside other promising young defenders, including linebacker Trenton Simpson and defensive tackles Travis Jones and Broderick Washington.

Robinson was a big man as a rookie, measuring 6-foot-6 and 258 pounds. Now, even bigger, with about 10 pounds of added muscle this offseason.

“I definitely feel stronger. My hands are even heavier and my speed is exactly the same,” Robinson said.

“Last year, my role was really first and second base, giving the edge, being that physical player on the field. So, of course, whatever my role is, I’m going to fulfill that role to the best of my ability. I think it’ll be similar to that this year, but, of course, I want to continue to develop that role as the years go on.”

After the Ravens’ final mini-training session, Robinson walked the length of the field to chat with pass rush specialist and outside linebackers coach Chuck Smith. Smith worked wonders with Baltimore’s league-leading pass rush last season, and Robinson is one of his most sought-after projects.

“He knows I have the power. So it’s about wrapping it up and learning the skills and the actual moves,” Robinson said. “I really focused on the moves in the offseason. I started spinning a little bit, I started learning some stuff from Odafe (Oweh) and stuff. I think that’s going to help me a ton, being able to use that finesse and still have that power in my pocket.”
