Tribes 3 Rivals enters de facto maintenance mode as developers offer compensation

mm what do you say

There is bad news, but perhaps not unexpected, for Tribes 3 Rivals players today, as developer Prophecy Games released a rather flat “Player Update” that announces compensation for everyone who paid money for the game. Any money spent on the game before June 27 will be donated to the developer’s new game, Ultra strikers, in the form of a dollar-for-dollar lump sum credit. And if that sounds like a prelude to the game shutting down, it kind of is, as the update also makes it clear that the game isn’t able to support the studio at this time.

The stated goal is to keep the game going with limited updates in the future, but it certainly doesn’t seem like the game will be kept in any sort of active development going forward. Nor does it seem like there are any plans to potentially change that in the future, beyond providing a new game for players to migrate to. Our condolences to fans of the game who were hoping for more.
