House Holds Moment of Silence for Thomas Massie’s Late Wife

House Republicans and Democrats gathered Friday to observe a moment of silence following the representative’s sudden death. That of Thomas Massie (R-KY) wife.

Massie announced Friday morning that his wife, Rhonda, had died.

“Yesterday, my high school sweetheart, the love of my life for over 35 years, the loving mother of our 4 children, the smartest and kindest woman I have ever known, my beautiful and wise queen for always, Rhonda, has gone to heaven,” he wrote on X. “Thank you for your prayers for our family during this difficult time. »

Massie followed the announcement by sharing photos of his wife and their family.

“Mr. President, we were all saddened today to learn of the passing of the spouse of one of our members, Thomas Massie, a man from Kentucky,” the representative said. Chip Roy (R-TX) said on the House floor with the Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) at his side.

Roy explained that Massie had returned home the night before after hearing of his wife’s sudden death.

“I would ask everyone in the room and everyone in the complex to stand and observe a moment of silence and offer your prayers, your thoughts and your condolences to our good friend from Kentucky,” Roy told his fellow House members before members bowed their heads for a few moments.

Lawmakers took to social media to express their condolences to Massie and his

family.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Rhonda Massie, the beloved wife of my friend and colleague, Thomas Massie. Rhonda’s warmth, kindness and dedication to her family and community touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her,” the rep said. Andy Barr (R-KY) wrote about X.

“Elaine and I are devastated to learn of the passing of Congressman Thomas Massie’s beloved wife, Rhonda. The entire Commonwealth supports the Massie family and prays for Thomas, their four children and all those who mourn his loss,” the senator said. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) wrote about his fellow Kentucky lawmaker.
