Poilievre’s office remains mum on leader’s Pride plans, other party leaders plan to attend

Pierre Poilievre is the only federal leader whose staff has not responded to questions about his leader’s plans to participate in Pride events this summer.

His office instead points to Melissa Lantsman, the party’s deputy leader, who attended a Pride flag-raising ceremony on Parliament Hill earlier this month.

Poilievre did not publicly celebrate Pride month while traveling across the country in June to meet with community groups while celebrating St. John the Baptist Day, Italian Heritage Month and the Toronto Christian Music Festival.

LGBTQ groups across North America celebrate June as Pride month, although festivals and parades take place throughout the summer in different Canadian cities.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s office has confirmed he will march in this weekend’s Pride parade in Toronto, a tradition that dates back to his days as a member of the provincial legislature.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office confirmed he would be participating in Pride events across the country this summer, but did not release details.

Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet’s office also confirmed he would be attending Pride events, and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May said on social media she would be at the rallies.
