Ex-NBA Star Says Luka Doncic “Needs to Stop” Complaining After Angry Outbursts Spark Backlash

Luka Doncic had the highest points this regular season and the most complaints with the refs. And this has been pointed out by not just one but multiple entities from the NBA community. And now yet another ex-NBA star has expressed his opinion of Doncic’s alleged flaw.

Appearing on a recent episode of VLAD TVSebastian Telfair faced the question of his opinion on Doncic, always “whining to the refs”. Telfair showed his understanding of the Mavs star while still being a young player, and most young players tend to do this. The 39-year-old still believes it’s high time that Doncic “needs to stop” with this habit of his.

And this is not the first instance that the 5x All-Star has received or faced backlash for that matter on this issue. In fact, as per the reports, the Dallas Mavericks’ coaches themselves “begged” and “pleaded” Doncic to stop approaching refs during games. In one instance, during Game 3, the Mavs guard even indicated the infamous money sign towards referee Kevin Scott after a foul. And this is just one of many instances of his altercations with refs in recent times.

This is something that attracted Gilbert Arenas’ attention as well, who bashed ‘El Matador’ for his demeanor. “The problem with Luka is that it’s not even technically worthy, you’re just b*tching,” Arenas said. He further emphasized that all of this is affecting Luka Doncic’s gameplay as well. But the ex-Wizards star also shared a piece of advice which he had received from Mike Conley.

“You are Luka, they can’t call everything for you, but they’re going to give you the calls that they need to give you for you to still be you,” Gil said. He further reminded Luka that a ref would not change his call once he made it. Sportswriter Bill Simmons has also already expressed his frustration with the Mavs star’s constant “bitchi*g”. However, amid all this backlash, Telfair made one major claim against the NBA refs.

Sebastian Telfair claims “refs be cheating” in the league

After suggesting Luka Doncic stop with him “whining”, the ex-NBA star claimed that refs do cheat in the NBA. And he stated his confidence in his statement comes from the fact he is no longer in the league. So, he obviously cannot get in the bad books of the refs and suffer consequences in the game.

His statement that refs were caught and admitted to cheating made it clear he was hinting at Tim Donaghy. Notably, Donaghy’s gambling scandal has been one of the darkest aspects of NBA history. The investigation against the NBA started back in 2017 by the FBI. And Donaghy’s involvement in the gambling ring came to light.

As per the reports, the investigation revealed that the NBA ref was providing inside information to gamblers for money. Later, the NBA, in its investigation, also found Tim guilty and suspended him from the league. Apart from this, he also faced a sentence of 15 months in prison. However, one cannot measure all the refs on the same scale. And with multiple advice so far, Luka Doncic needs to understand his loss in getting involved with the refs.
